Modernism
In the 19th century, Europe was plagued by war, distress, and
a variety of different political and social problems. Romanticism
was born out of this stress and distraught economy, which led
the way to modernism. A lot of things happened between the romantic
period and the modernism period, but eventually in 1872, the year
modernism is said to have been born, an artist created a piece
that would forever change the art scene and history.

Modernism began to change into something that reflected scientific
theories, as well as integration of various industrialization periods.
This growing style of art became a large part of what changed everything
during the turn of the century. Writers, thinkers, and artists alike
all contributed to the large amount of modernistic styles being
produced. Some of the modernism styles helped lead the way towards
futurism, and recent philosophers. Big
names such as Nietzsche and Bergson were a large part of modernism.
The early 1900s is when modernism made its huge introduction to
the world. By then everything had exploded into modernism art, and
art based off of modernism. Many of the most popular modernists
were famous during this period, and progressive art was largely
popular.
After world war 2, modernism evolved into something deeper and
more popular. Artists like Jackson Pollock became well known,
and minimalism as well as collages
and neo-dada styles were born. These styles
were eventually a large part of our culture today, considering
many of those styles are still widely practiced and used for everything
from ads to products. Pop art and visual performances were largely
part of Modernism as well, making way for famous artists such
as Andy Warhol and abstract stage performers.
Modernism is comparable to other styles of art. It features a unique
way of performing and presenting art through literature, stage performances,
and traditional styled art. While modernism is its own branch, many
other types of art were inspired by it. For example, without modernism,
we would not have minimalism or collages, or pop art. Without those,
we might not have comic books or expressionism
of any kind. Modernism opened a very large gate to make way for
the future of art and creative designs. Expressions and subconscious
emotion is greatly encouraged with this style, and despite modernism
"dying down", it is still largely known and popular today.
